The purpose of this research was to assess vocabulary teaching strategies at secondary schools of
ArbaMinch City Administration secondary and preparatory schools. Classroom vocabulary
testing, in these schools, is a crucial problem that teachers face. The main purpose of vocabulary
testing in English language is to prepare our students in order to achieve better knowledge of
vocabulary for needed purpose. Testing vocabulary needs a careful preparation as it has been
seen from different angles with its function and form. However, classroom vocabulary testing, in
these schools, is a crucial problem that teachers face and the researcher interested to conduct the
research on the area in order to point out possible solution through it. The objective of the study
also focused how teachers employ testing strategies of the vocabulary and measure that could be
taken to solve the existing problems that hinder the implementation of testing. It could have to
serve as a source document for those who are interested in further investigation on the same
area. Findings on the area were elaborated using setting description and data gathering
instruments questionnaire interview and focus group discussion with department heads. Data was
analyzed and interpreted according to the instruments. Finally, conclusion and recommendations
were given to point out the research gap and how to solve the existing problems on vocabulary
item testing. |
