dc.description.abstract The main purpose of this study was to investigate novice and experienced English language teachers’ teaching techniques, classroom management, lesson planning and presentation skills. The design employed in the study was descriptive survey. The sampling technique used in the study was comprehensive sampling technique. The sample size was 37 experienced teachers and 15 novice teachers with the total of 52 participants involved in this study. The data gathering instruments were observation and questionnaire. Questionnaire was administered to 37 experienced and 15 novice teachers, and all 52 of them properly filled and returned the questionnaire. Primary data were collected from observation and questionnaire. The collected data were analyzed using both qualitative and quantitative methods of data analysis. The study indicated that teaching techniques used by novice teachers in the study area were discussions; pair work and lecture whereas experienced teachers highly used role play, group work and drills as a teaching technique. Findings of this study showed that novice teachers have poor experience on managing misbehaving students, were not well prepared to maintain discipline in the classroom, had no ability to handle students’ individual differences in the classroom and had minimal plan of activities designed to involve all students while maintaining discipline in the classroom. the findings of this study depicted that experienced teachers had better understanding in writing clear lesson objectives, had the capacity to plan instruction based on curricular goal, decide on steps necessary to teach the lesson and had the ability to plan suitable assessment procedures for learning procedures. It was recommended that experienced teachers should share their knowledge and experiences to novice teachers about the use of teaching techniques. It was also recommended that the Ministry of Education and other concerned bodies should organize successive workshops, seminars and in-service trainings so that experienced teachers can get the chance to share experiences to novice teachers on how to cope with the existing problems encountered in teaching techniques in secondary schools. en_US
