Abstract:
The purpose of this study was to assess the effect of employee engagement on job satisfaction in
Arba Minch University Academic staff. The population of the study was all academic staffs in
ArbaMinch University. Using probability sampling method specifically simple random sampling
technique and based on the Yamane sample size determination formula, 334 academic staffs are
selected as a sample from the total population of 2017. The obtained data was edited, and
categorized to prepare for further analysis and after that the data was analyzed using mean,
standard deviation ,and Pearson’s correlation coefficient and regression analysis. To do so the
statistical packaging for social science (SPSS) version 20 was utilize. The descriptive result
indicates that the participant’s level of employee engagement was medium approaches to high
whereas their level of job satisfaction was high. Moreover, the results obtained through T-test
showed that males have higher level of employee engagement than females. The ANOVA result
showed that there were significant differences in level of job satisfaction based on college, level
of education and work experience. However, there was no significant difference is present into a
faculty member’s age and marital status on the level of job satisfaction. The result of Pearson
correlation coefficient analysis showed that employee engagement have significant and positive
relationship with job satisfaction. According to the linear regression result the best predictor of
job satisfaction was physical employee engagement emotional engagement cognitive
engagement.
