dc.description.abstract In a plural society with diverse backgrounds, the grasp of religion allows us to live in peace and harmony. Exemplary attitudes of tolerance, affections and respect assure a constructive environment despite the differences. Hence, efforts in enhancing the understanding of various religions and cultures have to be implemented and it should be based on the right references and knowledge. The main objective of this thesis is to explain the co-existence of Sufi and Salafi groups in Worabe town. The research data that informed this thesis were collected main through the employments of Anthropological approach and ethnography as the main research techniques. The study uses social constructivism perspectives to grasp the emic point of Worabe about the Sufi- Salafi reality in the study area. The method followed to collect data for the preparation of this thesis is qualitative one. The rich data collected essentially pattern of Sufi-Salafi tolerance and co-existence. After carefully handling our data through qualitative method, data analysis has been undertaken as much as possible. In this thesis the researcher selected informant, through non- random purposive sampling techniques deliberately choose group of person. The researcher observed Islamic ritual and social practices to understand how peaceful relations are maintained between Sufi and Salafi groups. The study found that socio-cultural factors strongly contribute to maintaining peaceful intra religious encounters. Indigenous socio-economic institutions such as iddir, ekub, and gzee contributed positively to binding Sufi and Salafi together and communal coffee ceremonies fostered neighborhood attachments irrespective of sect differences. The influence of social values gained from religious capitals and doctrines promoted peaceful Sufi- Salafi coexistence in the study localities. The contribution of religious leaders, local elders, Majlis councils, and faith-based institution was positive in shaping peaceful intra-religious tolerance en_US
