dc.description.abstract The main purpose of this study was to investigate the extent of female teachers’ aspirations to school leadership position in secondary schools of Gofa Zone. To achieve these purposes three basic research questions were set. Descriptive survey design particularly a cross-sectional survey design was applied based on the nature of the study with 5 schools, 90 male teachers, 50 female teachers, 3 female school leaders and 5 female office experts giving a total of 153 samples selected from the study population. Simple random sampling and availability sampling techniques were employed to obtain samples of the study. Questionnaire, interview and document review were used to collect quantitative and qualitative data. Out of 140 questionnaires distributed, 134 questionnaires were properly filled and retuned. Interviews were conducted with 5 Woredas and Town education office female exports in (Demba Gofa woreda, Oyida woreda, Zala woreda, Geze Gofa woreda) and Sawula Town Administration, and 3 female school leaders. Data obtained through questionnaires were analyzed using percentage, mean, standard deviation values and independent T-test value. The data gathered from interviews and document reviews were qualitatively described and narrated. The findings indicated that female teachers’ current participation in school leadership position was low, their aspiration to it was also limited and this was mainly caused by socio-cultural, personal, institutional, and Competence of female teachers’ factors negatively affect the aspiration of female teachers in leadership position. Begin with it is recommended that providing training for women, gender awareness campaign, discourage societal discrimination, change family traditional structure, sensitize society to accept women leadership, women’s self-motivation in orderto poster self-confidence among them. en_US
