dc.description.abstract The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of perceived organizational support (POS) on employee commitment and to test the mediating role of organization based self-esteem on the relationship between POS and employee commitment in case of AMU. In this survey study, a quantitative and a cross sectional data was collected from 297 academic staffs using stratified random sampling technique. The research design is both descriptive and explanatory type and the required data was collected through adapted questionnaires from prior studies and data was analyzed quantitatively by using SPSS V. 20 with the help of Macro process V3.5. Findings indicated that teachers had moderate level of perceived organization support, affective, normative and continuous commitment and also organization based self-esteem. There is significant mean difference on teachers’ perception of continuous commitment in terms of gender and educational level difference, and also there is significant mean difference on the perception of normative commitment in terms of marital status. Findings also revealed that both perceived organization support and organization based self-esteem had positive and significant effect on affective and normative commitment but, negative and significant effect on continuous commitment. On the other side, perceived organization support had positive and significant effect on organization based self-esteem. Moreover, organization based self-esteem had a partial mediation effect on the relationship between POS and each dimension of employee commitment. Standing from this result the researcher recommend the management of Arba Minch University must recognize teachers contribution to their organization, make them feel valued to increase their perceived organizational support and then enhance organizational commitment. Farther more, the management of AMU should primarily focus on effective perceived organizational support strategies to develop teachers’ organization based self-worth as well as organization en_US
