Abstract:
In this thesis we proposed a model based analysis of arterial blood pressure (ABP).
The objective of the thesis is to estimate the characteristics of arterial blood pressure
pulse waveform. Blood is considered as an incompressible non viscous
uid and artery
is an elastic vessel. The arterial blood pressure is modeled by one dimensional NavierStokes
equation. The analysis of the arterial blood pressure is based on the parameters
of the reduced model and the behavior of solitons representing pressure pulse wave in
the artery. The peaking and steepening phenomenon of the pulse wave of the arterial
blood pressure are interpreted by the increase in amplitude and the decrease in the
width of the solitons. The highest amplitude indicates the systolic blood pressure
and the lowest indicates the diastolic blood pressure. The behavior and motion of the
solitons are displayed using matlab software. The changes in the amplitude of the pulse
wave implies the changes in the arterial blood pressure and which can be applicable in
clinical diagnosis.
