The purpose of this study was to investigate factors that affect academic
achievement of female students in Kambate Tembaro Zone Angacha Woreda Funamura
secondary Schools. Three basic questions were formulated, which emphasized on the
main causes, consequences and there possible suggestions to improve achievement of
female students. To this end, descriptive survey study, with both quantitative and
qualitative, research method was employed. In this study, 150 school students and 20
teachers, and a total of 170 respondents took part from one sample government
secondary schools. The teachers were selected by purposive sampling and the students
were selected by simple random sampling techniques. Close and open ended questioner,
interview guides were developed and fully utilized as the main data gathering
instruments. Data were analyzed using frequency counts, percentages, mean value and
standard deviation. The result of study also indicates that the school involves low in
counseling and guidance, Unequal treatment of male and female students, low attitude
of parents and society towards females education, and migrate to other countries. To
alleviate the above, it was recommended that the school teachers, parents as well as the
concerned governmental body should develop strategies, and follow and guide low
academic achievement of female students attentively and continuously. |
