Abstract:
Intranets & Intranetware for any organization or corporate; have become a central
junction/platform for implementing organization specific culture in order to ensure smooth and
effective communication, computing and collaboration among employees or stakeholders for
vertical and horizontal management like directing, reporting, collaborating, socializing,
communicating and meeting or discussing professional and social issues. Also cloud based
computing and communications have created a new pace, frontiers and paradigms for cultural
re-engineering towards better/enhanced performance and extended features for next generation
technology and their adoption or migrations in organization /corporates. Organizational
activities make use of computing, communicating and collaborating resources effectively with
enhanced performance in terms of boundary less accessibility, high availability, reliability,
responsiveness, security & privacy, scalability and load balancing along with extended features
over on-demand models. These new technology models are exponentially popularizing because
of their user friendliness and access with little knowledge and efforts of technology for user’s
communities. In the current state of art many organizations either shifted/migrated their on-
premise intranets over cloud platforms or under planning to migrate for better/enhancing
performance and extended features. However, on other side they are running the legacy systems
of ICTs like Intranets over on-premise networks with seriously compromised performances. In
both the cases they have success and failure stories and fears i.e. “what went wrong” during
development/shift/migration or “what will go wrong” during development/shift/migration.
Many organizations have accomplished researches on cloud shift strategies for smooth
migration of on-premise Intranets or On-premise computing over Cloud. During review of
related research works; a clear knowledge gap was observed between “haves and have not” in
On-premise Intranet vs. Intranet over Cloud particularly for smooth shift/migration process for
On-premise/traditional Intranet over cloud. Further, it was observed that Shift/Migration
Strategies for Shifting/Migrating any Legacy System (i.e. a System in hand/On-Premise) like
Intranet has several big worries, issues or challenges in the mind of technocrats or decision
makers especially Cloud Designers or Managers. Though, Cloud technologies have matured
enough now a day but its success depend on several factors at Server, Client Sides and over
Communication Channels. This research study started with a research question and motivation
that what is an alternative technology strategy and pathway for enhancing performance and
extending add-on features over educational Intranets which is lagging behind in current state of
art. Further; how on-premise intranet can be shifted/migrated over cloud platforms with
promised enhanced performance and extended/add-on features which is contrary to Intranet’s
design Principle (Open Boundary Accessibility). In order to justify necessity for new
knowledge & strategy; the research collected inputs from Users questionnaire, Technical
Experts interview and Researcher’s own observation. After analysis of these facts; a clear vision
of performance enhancement needed with add-on features over Intranet were identified and
made. The study deeply investigated and analyzed the limitations and challenges in terms of
features and performances of current state of art of intranet in general and onxii | P a g e
premise/traditional Intranet of AMU in specific. It was done for baseline fact findings in
primary investigation and data collection for designing Intranet Shift Strategic Algorithm over
Cloud. Here, the study used some of the selected features for examining, analyzing and
categorizing the services currently running over on-premise Intranet along with the extended
computing, communication and collaboration services / features required to be delivered over -the Cloud based Intranet. Finally, the “Intranet Shift/Migration Strategic Algorithm” over
Cloud was Designed, Developed and Simulated using SaaS (i.e. AMU CloudNet) over Cloud
Computing Platform i.e. Interact Intranet for functional demonstration. This was done to
showcase that how Computing, Communication and Collaboration Services can be utilized
from anywhere at any time with boundary less access over Hybrid Cloud Computing Model.
This research contributed a new knowledge about next generation Intranet’s arena for enhanced
computing, communication and collaborations over the cloud.
