dc.description.abstract This study investigated the waste management activities adopted in coffee processing industries and the resultant impact on environment in chirre woreda, sidama zone of SNNPR.The main objective of this study was to assess the impact of coffee waste management on the environment. The research approach employed was a mixed one, comprising of both quantitative and qualitative approaches.The investigation was conducted on three wet and one dry processing industry and 190 household participantswhich were selected by random sampling techniques. Interview, structured questioners and field observations were the tools employed during investigation. In addition to descriptive statistics, Pearson correlation coefficient was employed. The most favored coffee waste management options in chire woreda were disposal without recycling of water. The coffee waste were directly discharged to the nearby water bodies causing severe ailments symptoms like, eye irritation(burning inside), skin irritation, breathing problem, stomach problem, spinning sensation(feeling drunk) and nausea and it also result negative impact on domestic animals.Generally, limited consultation service were given, low awareness of the participants, less political commitment in implementing management regulations, coffee machine owners have limited knowhow regarding the potential use of coffee wasteand coffee waste becomes the cause for additional expenditure for treatment of themselves and their family including expenditure for treatment of domestic animals. To recommend that use new technologies to change coffee waste in to resource, apply advanced wet coffee processing machine, concerned stockholders should work cooperatively in creating awareness and implementing rules and regulations of coffee waste en_US
