Abstract:
Professional ethics has a great influence on dam construction regarding to time, quality, and
cost related on each activity. As Ethiopia economic growth depends on agricultural sector,
irrigation dam projects linked to share construction industry in order to reduce poverty and
sustainable development. In this reason professionals unethical behave is one of the drawback
on dam construction risk and shall be mitigated without any compromise.
Hence, the issue of professional evaluation and current condition is very critical. A
questionnaire survey was conducted in the Gidabo project, in order to assess the current
situation. A result indicates that various forms of unethical conducts have major impact on
dam construction delay time, cost overrun, quality problem, and resource management. This
research concludes that professional performance, contract administration, risk monitoring
system has an impact on the overall progress of dam project.
In addition, corruption and other fraud actions also addressed their own influence in the
construction industry and the same government weak controlling system of professionals also
identified. Finally, recommendation has provided based on conclusion in order to improve
better application of construction quality.
