Assessment of construction material management on building construction site of Bahir Dar town

Abstract

This project was exploring construction material management on building construction site. In the study incorporated method of measuring effective material management, local practices of construction materials management in selected contracting company’s, factor affecting material management on building site as well as cause of material wastage on the building construction site. Data for study was obtained through structural questionnaires administer to respondents in three different construction sites in Bahir Dar town. this are Cause of material wastage on building construction site are damage by mishandling and rework due to poor work man ship, over ordering of construction material, and alteration of designs this are the major causes of material wastage on building construction site, and the factor affecting effective material management on building construction site are lock of proper work planning and scheduling, lack of inadequate storage facility, inefficient work force are the major factor affecting effective material management on building construction site, and also measures for effective material management on building construction site are training of both management and other staff, ensuring proper planning and scheduling of building works are the major measures for effective material management on building construction site, and Most contracting companies manage construction materials using non computerized forms. Shortage of suitable construction materials management software is considered the main obstacle to computerize materials management processes. Another important factor is lack of qualified persons in using computerized construction materials management packages. .
