| dc.description.abstract | The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of parenting style on assertiveness and academic achievement of trainees of Arba Minch College of Teachers education. Respondents were all regular students of the college and in number 165 students (56 female and 109 male students) that selected from this college. Subjects filled two types of questionnaire including assertiveness scale and parenting style questionnaires. One way ANOVA and two ways ANOVA were used for data analysis with SPSS software. The results showed parenting style affects academic achievement and assertiveness of students. Moreover, students grew under authoritative parenting style are significantly better in assertiveness than other types parenting styles. Similarly, authoritative parenting style has a significant effect on academic achievement (CGPA) of trainees. The study also revealed that sex did not affect students’ assertiveness skill. On the contrary, sex significantly affects the trainees’ academic achievement. The interaction effect of parenting style and sex was not significantly affects assertiveness of trainees. The study suggested that there is a need to create awareness among families on the importance of authoritative parenting style in increasing students’ assertiveness and academic achievement. In addition, the study suggested that the college should empower students’ especially female students to be more self- confident and assertive in order to increase their academic achievement. | en_US |
