dc.description.abstract This thesis assessed the performance of four blocks KDIP.as large irrigation systems indeed have their own identity and have a very important role in economic development of many parts of the world. Canal water delivery and flow rates, soil and crop parameters were measured and tested in the field and in laboratory by frequent field observations, field sample takings and measurements. Secondary data obtained from the various sources and canal operators, BWE, meteorological agencies, interviews with members of the irrigation project staffs and farmers, data recorded through the lives of the project and design documents of the project Due to time and budget four blocks were selected and compared using minimum sets of performance indicators. Any volume of irrigation water applied on irrigable area blocks was either insufficient, too much or not the recommended water quantity and quality. Therefore in order to determine how much irrigation water to apply was essential to revise irrigation schedule and the way in which we managed water application uniformities, efficiencies and conditions of irrigation and drainage canals. Lack of proper irrigation water management was one of the most im portant problems for unexpected outcomes. From 12 blocks kudimi with 373ha ,Chihona 617ha, Ambomesk with 812 ha and Inguiti with 393 ha due to the proximity to reservoir area and the main road from Addis to Bahirdar, their irrigation practices, the availability of secondary data and organizational set up and with sites of research centers were selected.. From analyzed data of performance evaluation indicators, the result of RWS was 1.01, 6.75, 0.60 and 0.75 and RIS was 0.97, 6.58, 0.54 and 0.71 for Kudimi, Chihona, Ambomesk and Inguiti respectively. The values of reliability were 1.00, 7.53, 0.48, 0, and 55 and for adequacy the values were 1.00, 7.53, 0.48, and 0.55. The values of equities were 1.56, 2.49, 0.85 and0.93 for Kudimi, chihona, Ambomesk and Inguiti blocks respectively. Output per cropped area was 6958.7, 8297.13, 4881.9 and 3790.63 kg/ha. And the value of the output per command area was 58,706.03; 128,329.82; 48,472.93; and 32,162.85 ETB/ha for kudimi, chihona, Ambomesk and inguiti respectively. The output per unit irrigation supply was 0.46, 0.32, 0.56 and3.78 kg/m^3. And Output per water consumed was 3.79, 34.52; 3.5; and 1.13 ETB/m^3 for the above blocks respectively. en_US
