Horizontal curves are usually considered as the critical points within the urban and rural road
network and the evaluation of their performance provides valuable understanding and useful
indication about the performance of the road network system. The existing roads design does not
provide adequate facilities horizontal curve length and hence, there exists a constant crush
of vehicles in tied curve length of the road. At horizontal curves, vehicles crossing behavior is even
more complex since the drivers have very little response time to control the vehicles, particularly in
urban areas. All these issues are pointing towards the research work required for studying the road
travel behavior of vehicles and pedestrians at horizontal curves. Pedestrian is one of the important
component in transportation system and also vulnerable at locations under mixed traffic conditions.
At horizontal curve, some of the vehicles may yield to pedestrians who are already at crosswalk
location. However, some of the pedestrians are using forced gaps to cross the road. Hence, while
pedestrians use the curve crosswalk with forced gaps, which decreases the vehicular flow
characteristics. The pedestrian sidewalks do not show a direct effect on the vehicular flow
characteristics. The present study has analyzed the characteristics of vehicular flow at horizontal
curve under traffic conditions. The results indicate that the speed of vehicles at horizontal curve is
main issues that increases vehicles accident. The study results may be useful for decreasing the
vehicles accident at horizontal curves.
The result of this study indicates that the studied horizontal curve sodo to maracare, maracare to
dalbo gebrial, dalbo gebrial to boditi city, boditi city to shone currently high traffic accident. Thus,
after carrying out additional detail investigation and taking into consideration future traffic growth
appropriate improvement should be made by concerned bodies as soon as possible. |
