Bamboo fibers were used as a constituent material in the manufacturing of fiber concrete in this
study, the proportions of cement, sand, water, coarse aggregate, and bamboo fiber were
determined for C-30 concrete grade using the ACI mix design method. The weights of elements
necessary to manufacture 1m3 of concrete for each percentage addition of bamboo fiber by
weight cement of concrete, namely 0%, 1%,1.5% and 2% and its length is a mixed of (25mm,
50mm and 75mm).
The aim of this study was to provide determination effect of bamboo fiber on compressive,
flexural and split capacity of concrete compared with conventional concrete.
For concrete with partial replacement of BFC is carried out in the percentage of 0%, 1% , 1.5%,
and 2%, at 7, 14 and 28, days of curing For each percentage replacement, 3 samples were
selected for each testing days (7th, 14th and 28th).
Based on the finding of this study, the following conclusions were drawn: addition of bamboo
fibers increases compressive, flexural and split strength of concrete.
In comparison with control concrete, the maximum increased in the compressive strength
with1% bamboo fiber was 10.95% at 7 days, 0.75% at 14 days and 4% at 28 days, with1.5%
bamboo fiber was 11.9% increased at 7 days, 3% increased at 14 days and 6.62% increased at 28
days and with2% bamboo fiber was 16.19% increased at 7 days, 6.44% increased at 14 days and
s 9.15% increased at 28 days.
The flexural strength increased from 2.06 N/mm2 for 0% fiber content to a maximum of
12.52N/mm2 for 2 percent fiber content for 28 days.
When 1%, 1.5% and 2% percent bamboo fiber by weight of cement was added to BFC, the mean
splitting tensile strength increased for 1% by 4.16 percent at 7 days, 4.27 present at 14 days and
3.73 present at 28 days. And for 2% by 18.72 percent at 7 days, 16.36 present at 14 days and
6.83 present at 28 days when compared to plain concrete. The tensile strength of BFC with 1
percent bamboo fiber increased by 3.73 percent at 28 days, and with 2 percent bamboo fiber
increased by 6.83 percent at 28 days, which is essentially significant.
According to my study 2% is the optimum percentage of bamboo fiber based on its compressive,
flexural and splitting strengths |
