Abstract:
ABSTRACT BACKGROUND End tuberculosis strategy of the world health organization planned to reduce the number of deaths, the incidence and the catastrophic costs of the affected family. To get desired outcome of the world health organization plan, considering the satisfaction of patients who visit health facility to tuberculosis care have invaluable contribution on achieving the plan sated. OBJECTIVE. To assess the level of tuberculosis patient satisfaction and its associated factors towards services provided by public health facilities in Arba Minch town Gamo Goffa.
METHODS.A facility based cross sectional study was conducted in Arba minch town from September to October 30, 2017. A total of334patients were selected among all tuberculosis patients included in the study by systematic random sampling and exit interview was done. Health workers from other health facilities were assigned for data collection. Data was collected by pretested questionnaire and also observation and facility inventory was used. Analyzed by using statistical package of social science (SPSS) version 20.Descriptive, bivariate and multiple logistic regression analyses were conducted and statistically significant factors were declared at a level of P value < 0.05.
RESULTS. The overall patient satisfaction scored was 51.2%. Multivariable logistic regression analysis of this study showed that level of education of respondents [AOR (95% CI) =0.35(0.15, 0.85)], respect of health care providers [AOR (95% CI) =3.47(1.83, 6.55)] and convenience of service waiting area [AOR=4.45; 95%CI: (2.47, 7.99)] were the factorsassociated with TB patients‟ satisfaction.
CONCLUSION AND RECOMMENDATION
In this study TB patient satisfaction level was low. Nearly half (51.2%) of respondents were satisfied with TB health care service in the facility. Among the four service provision dimensions assessed, patients were more satisfied with the technical competency dimension and less satisfied with facility physical environment in this study. Educational status, respection of health care providers during the service, and convenience of service waiting area were significantly associated with TB patient satisfaction. The facilities should be work hard on the areas of satisfaction scored low and on the factors that affected the satisfaction.
