dc.description.abstract The objective of this study is to better understand the seismic performance of different shape of reinforced concrete shear walls with opening using response spectrum analysis with the help of ETABS2018.0.2 finite element software package. The shear wall on G+18 reinforced concrete building is used as a case study. There are three types of shear walls with door opening in this building. The first rectangular shear wall with symmetric door opening. The second L-shape is shear wall, with symmetric door openings and the third C-shape shear wall symmetric door opening. It will be located at the middle part of building and will maintain symmetry. No shear wall provided model will be used as reference. The study will be G+18 reinforced concrete building models of the above mentioned shear walls with opening in order to get more comprehensive conclusions. The lateral loads were applied according to ES EN 1998-1:2015’s provisions by assuming as if all shear walls were located in the highest seismic zone of Ethiopia. Then the three types of shear wall with opening were, selected for comparison, and introduced one by one in each separate model and analyzed. The results for various analysis outputs i.e. story drifts, story displacements, and story shears are obtained, plotted and compared. It is seen that L-Shape of shear wall with opening and C-shape of shear wall with opening are the most effective in resisting seismic forces on story displacement and story drift while Rectangular Shape of shear wall with opening show the least resistance towards on story displacement and story drift and the shape of shear wall with opening has no effect on reduction of story shear since the same cross section of shear wall en_US
