ASSESSMENT OF IMPACTS OF DESIGN DEFICIENCIES ON MAINTENANCE COST AND QUALITY OF PUBLIC BUILDING PROJECTS IN ARBAMINCH TOWN

Abstract

Design deficiencies can have significant impacts on the maintenance cost and quality of public buildings. proactively considering maintenance needs in the design process, using analytical techniques, and ensuring quality construction are crucial to minimizing the impacts of design deficiencies on public building maintenance costs and performance over the long term. The objectives of the research were to assessment of impacts of design deficiencies on Maintenance Costs and Quality of public building projects in Arba Minch town. The study used census methods techniques to analyze all members of a population. Both quantitative and qualitative data analysis techniques were applied to ensure triangulation of information from different source.The study result showed that architectural design deficiencies have the most impact on maintenance costs and quality. Among the fifty design deficiencies, only fifteen were recognised as critical design deficiencies (CDD). The analysis of variance (ANOVA) test result showed that statistically significant differences in ranking were observed for three design deficiencies factors, and significant effects, further, the ten CDD significant effects using Pearson’s correlations tested. From the findings, it can be concluded that organisations can benefit from a detailed understanding of the DD and its impacts on maintenance costs and the quality of buildings projects. The findings of this study will contribute to the scientific literature by providing an innovative investigation of the impacts of design deficiencies on maintenance costs and quality in buildings projects. Finally, the study recommended to project stakeholders to prioritize design quality and invest in effective design processes and practices to ensure project success
