Abstract:
A knowledge-base (KB) is a computerized repository designed to store, retrieve, and utilize
information, facts, and expertise for decision-making, problem-solving, and information
retrieval. In the Gamo community, traditional medicine plays a crucial role in healthcare,
particularly in pediatric care. However, much of this valuable knowledge remains
undocumented and is at risk of being lost. The Gamo community faces challenges in preserving
traditional medicinal knowledge, especially in child healthcare, due to its vulnerability to loss
and lack of a centralized system. To address this issue, a framework was designed to
systematically capture, organize, and disseminate traditional medicinal practices and remedies
for children. This framework aims to preserve cultural heritage and improve healthcare
accessibility. it can enhance understanding and utilization of traditional remedies for children's
health. The framework for traditional child medicine within the Gamo Community, also
enhancing pediatric healthcare practices, addressing cultural and ethical considerations. The
researcher used a mixed (Qualitative and Quantitative) research approach and Purposive
sampling method. After designing the desired Knowledge-Based Framework (KBF),
researcher developed a functional prototype for the integrated knowledge management process
using the Prolog programming language. This prototype was then demonstrated to users for
testing purposes. Finally, the proposed framework has been tested and evaluated based on the
(ISO- 9126) standards evaluation parameters. The findings were 80%, 60%, 65%, 70%, 75%,
85%, 65%, and 50%, respectively, based on their evaluation. Accordingly, the designed KB
framework and the developed prototype has the capability to improve the performance of KB
processes in Gamo community. As the research study finding indicates, the current knowledge
based framework (KBF) of Traditional child medicine in the Gamo community is not well
organized. Therefore, based on the analyzed primary and secondary data this research study
concluded that proposed framework could be a feasible alternative solution for managing and
disseminating Traditional child medicine in Gamo community.
