Background: Person-centered maternity care (PCMC) is providing maternity care that‟s
responsive and respectful to individual women‟s preferences, values, and needs; ensuring that
women‟s values guide all clinical decisions during labor and childbirth. Several studies have
been conducted to identify determinant factors of person centered maternity care in different
countries. However, there is a paucity of data regarding in the person centered maternity care
study area.
Objectives: The study aimed to assess person Centered Maternity Care and Associated Factors
among Mothers Who gave Birth at Public Health Facilities in Dawro zone, Essera District, 2022
Methods: a community-based cross-sectional study was conducted among randomly selected
387 mothers from April 29 to June 20/ 2022. Pretested structured questionnaire was used to
collect data from postpartum mothers. The data were checked for completeness, cleaned, coded,
and entered into Epi-data version 4.6software, and exported to SPSS version 25 for further
analysis. Descriptive statistics were presented in proportion using tables and figures.
Multivariable linear regression analysis was used to identify factors associated with Person
center maternity care. Variables with a P value of < 0.05 were taken as statistically significant.
Result; Overall, 380 respondents participated with a response rate of 98.2%.The percentage
mean score of the person centered maternity care of the respondents was 42.7%. In multivariable
linear regression, respondents having no ANC follow-up (β=-11.644, 95% CI: -15.775, -7.514),
night-time delivery (β= -10.361, 95% CI: -13.790,-6.932), gave birth by female health provider
(β= -4.642, 95% CI: -8.320, -9.64), complication during delivery (β= -18.7, 95% CI: -27.99,
9.4) , respondents who are unable to read and write (β= -7.579, 95% CI: -11.776, -3.383),
primary educational level (β= -7.462, 95% CI: -11.859, -3.125) ,secondary educational level (β= -8.557,95% CI:-12.535,-4.579), gave birth by midwife (β= -5.462, 95% CI:( -10.006, -9.17),and
gave birth by Nurse, or health extension (β=8.683, 95% CI: -16.262,-0.495), were significantly
decreased person centered maternity care score.
Conclusion and Recommendation; the percentage mean score of the person centered maternity
care of the respondents was 42.7%. The result of this study showed that respondents who had no
ANC follow, nighttime delivery, educational level, female sex of delivery attendant, the
profession of delivery attendant, and complications during delivery were decreased score;
Therefore, Health care providers should provide person-centered maternity care for mothers who
gave birth in the health facility. |
