dc.description.abstract Drainage system is designed to collect storm water runoff from the roadway surface and right-of-way, convey it along and through the right-of -way, and discharge it to an adequate receiving body without causing adverse on-or off -site impacts. Storm water drainage problem is one of the major challenges facing many countries in Ethiopia in general and Wolaita sodo town also faced the problem. This study has investigated the challenges of assessment on the adequacy of the urban surface drainage system and its impact on pavement performance in wolaita sodo town. The objective of this study is to investigate the adequacy of existing urban surface drainage systems in Wolaita soddo town. Furthermore, spatial analyses were conducted using Arc GIS,Google Earth pro,Eagle Point and Auto CAD software‟s as analytical tools. The existing depth and width of the storm water drainage channel were measured for all sub catchments of the study area of the town and used to determine the existing urban surface drainage capacity using topographic map of town. The hydrological analysis was computed by the SCS method and rational method. The computed discharge values, which were determined by both SCS method and rational method, were compared by dividing the watershed area according to their area of application. The existing urban surface drainage channel design discharge was increased from 1.75m3/s to 17.8m3/s . This research seeks to provide valuable insights into the interplay between drainage systems and pavement performance ultimate contributing to the development of sustainable urban infrastructure. en_US
