dc.description.abstract In this study, performance and Water Loss in the Water distribution system for case study of Maksegnit Water supply system was assessed. The main objective of this study is to assess the performances of the Maksegnit water supply distribution system and control its operation. WaterGEMS v8i software was used as tool to model water distribution system analysis. Which is used for modeling and Simulation of hydraulic parameters in the distribution networks. The distribution system junction pressure, water velocity, and nodal demands were the hydraulic parameters examined by this software. Modeling results showed that 87.6 percent of the nodes had pressures above than the recommended threshold for the study area, Similar to this, 100 percent of the velocities were below the adopted velocity. The efficiency of the system was evaluated using different performance indicators’ technical indicator shows the situations of water supply coverage (19%), water production and consumptions and also the un accounted for water whereas the financial indicator shows the revenue of collection efficiency, WaterGEMS model shows the level of pressure in junction & level of velocity through pipe. Nearly 20.32% of the total water production is loss at different level of distribution system before reaching to the consumer which is above AWWA guideline (<10%). The main reasons for the high loss of water in Maksegnit town water supply system are poor maintenance and insufficient financial resources of the utility. The study's findings showed that the undercurrent demand water distribution system performs ineffectively and the system should be modified using the design criteria of velocity, pressure and nodal demand. High pressures in the existing system caused by customers at too low demand have to be identified and solution is established using pressure-reducing valves. To retrieve the situation there is a need to intervene. Modification in operation and design will improve the current situation of the case study water distribution system. en_US
