Abstract:
By ratifying international human rights treaties, states assume the duty to respect, protect and
fulfill human rights. They have the duty to redress gross violation of human rights that are
carried out within their jurisdiction. As Ethiopia is a party to a number of human rights legal
instruments, it has a duty to comply with the international human right obligations by adopting
necessary measures for effective compliance to human right instruments. Despite the existing
legal framework, the daily and annual report of Ethiopian human rights commission revealed
that situation of human right in Ethiopia is worsening. Basically this research took up the case
Derashe especial woreda conflict and major gross violation in the conflict. For examination of
this study the method and procedure employed was qualitative in design with data collection
tools of document analysis, and interview. Triangulation and ethical consideration was made to
come up with reliable and valid findings, conclusions, and recommendations. As per the
findings, the recurrent conflict in Derashe special woreda caused gross violation of human right
in study area. The conclusion drawn is the failure commitment and lack of due diligence to
address pre and post violation situation in early manner. Finally, the study suggested possible
legal and administrative measure to address the violation of human right that rose in study area
in recurrent manner.
