The construction industry is a vital sector that contributes significantly to economic growth and
development in Ethiopia. However, the timely completion of construction projects is often hindered
by various delay factors, leading to significant impacts on project delivery and overall success.
This study aimed to exploring the delay factors and impacts associated with construction projects
in Jinka City, a rapidly growing urban center in Ethiopia. Through a comprehensive literature
review and empirical research, this project identifies and categorizes the key delay factors
affecting construction projects in Jinka City, including but not limited to poor project management,
inadequate planning, lack of skilled labor, material shortages, regulatory challenges.
Furthermore, the study investigates the impacts of these delay factors on project performance, cost
overruns, schedule delays, client dissatisfaction, contractor disputes, and overall project success.
By analyzing data collected from construction professionals, project managers, contractors, and
stakeholders in Jinka City, this research aims to provide valuable insights into the root causes of
delays, their consequences, and potential strategies for mitigating their negative effects on
construction projects. The findings of this study are expected to contribute to the existing body of
knowledge on construction project management, offer practical recommendations for improving
project delivery processes, and help stakeholders in Jinka City and beyond enhance their
understanding of delay factors and their impacts on construction projects. Ultimately, this
research seeks to promote effective project management practices, enhance project performance,
and facilitate sustainable development in urban areas like Jinka City through the timely and
successful completion of construction projects. This study found a multitude of factors causing
delays in building projects, such as poor planning, inadequate project management, lack of skilled
labor, material shortages, design alterations, and unexpected site conditions. The findings
highlight the need for improved project planning, management, and resource allocation to
mitigate delays and enhance project outcomes. The study recommends several measures to address
construction delays in Jinka city, including strengthening project planning and
coordination, improving supply chain management, investing in workforce development, inhancing
financial planning and management, establishing effective risk mitigation strategies. |
