Abstract:
The Construction of high-rise buildings with base isolation and the fluid viscous damper is the
most effective technique used to minimize structural collapse.
This study examines a numerical investigation of the nonlinear seismic response of regular
RCC structures by using a base isolator and FVD under severe earthquake acceleration, rested
on rock soil type with diagonal damper configurations using Etabs2016 software.
A 4-story 3D frame building is validated. After the analysis is completed on the validated RCC
frame, a parametric exploration is held on a 15-story RCC frame building by the simultaneous
application of base isolator and fluid viscous damper under three earthquake accelerations,
rested on soil types B and C having two different damper configurations.
Results obtained from the parametric examination show that Story displacement for model-1
is increased by a maximum value of 49.72% and 51.10% on model-2 respectively. while for
the same soil types, but for model-3 the story displacement is increased by a maximum value
of 37.515% and 39.33% respectively. The obtained story displacement result under the
imperial valley ground motion is significantly higher than for the same building model
subjected to N.Palm Springs and Chi-Chi, Taiwan earthquake acceleration, for both soil types,
and damper configurations. in a similar way, the fundamental period of model-1 is increased
at a maximum value of 25.78% and 27.10% respectively on model-2. The Base shear induced
on model -1 is large when compared with the two models. outputs from the parametric study
show that base shear is reduced by a maximum value of 51.180% and 53.85%, at the base on
model -2 respectively. In this study maximum story drift result is recorded at the lower story
nearer to the base. Though the story drifts on model-1 are increased by a maximum value of
29.54% and 39.41% on model-2 respectively. When comparing the story acceleration on
model-1, with model-2 and model-3, it decreases by a maximum value of 76.08% and 74.22%
on model-2 respectively at the top story. The Investigation is carried out by the nonlinear time
history analysis method. Overall the simultaneous application of base isolator and fluid viscous
damper shows a large significance on soil type -C with exterior damper configuration.
