dc.description.abstract The purpose of this study was to assess the effects of active learning techniques on students’ speaking skill achievement and attitude. In order to achieve this objective, the researcher used quasi experimental research design. The study was conducted at Ankober Secondary School, and the data were collected from 32 students and the questionnaire responses which were collected from control and experimental participants who were selected randomly from two sections of grade 9 students. The researcher used the speaking test and attitude questionnaire as research tools to measure students’ English speaking performance. The data were analyzed using inferential statistical methods including mean scores, standard deviations, paired sample t- test and an independent t- test. The finding showed learning speaking skill through active learning techniques is an important or effective way of learning in order to improve students’ achievement and attitude to speaking had positive correlation. With these findings, the researcher recommends that English teachers should encourage and facilitate their student to learn speaking skill through active learning techniques. en_US
