Abstract:
The pavement maintenance management system (PMMS) uses a scientific approach for
evaluating pavements. PCI is evaluation method is time and cost effective evaluation
system. Currently Ethiopia have many infrastructure project including construction are at
construction. One amongst the large problems in Ethiopia is that the failure of road
infrastructure without serving design period. To resolve this problem additionally to
construct new road project, proper and on time maintenance would be needed to
minimize failures on road pavement. This study would point different problem on specific
of road southern Ethiopia along the road of Sodo to Areka town.
For PCI Quality relation standard PCI rating scale and custom PCI rating scale would
be applied on suggestion for maintenance application. PCI rating range is between 0-100
looking on distress type, quantity and severity. For PCI Quality relation standard PCI

maintenance application. PCI rating range is between 0-100 looking on distress type,
quantity and severity. From the field work pavement condition survey was collected as
1% excellent, 12% very Good, 51% good, 29% fair, 6% poor, 0% very poor, 1% failed
according to standard PCI rating scale.. The outcomes of the selected street sections that
are evaluated indicates the PCI value vary (8-85).
The results indicated that the majority of these roads had low PCI. Lack of efficient and
proper maintenance created severely distressed pavements requiring rehabilitation.
Hence, on my study ERA would be recommended to require attention on efficient
maintenance i.e. equipped with modern evaluation tools, financial capabilities and
trained personnel.
