Abstract:
The main objective of this study is to improve the performance of Seladingay town water
supply distribution system and control its operation with the aid of computer analysis.
The approaches adopted for the system components to perform the model, existing water
distribution system and other related available data has been collected like number of
population and institutions, topography of the study area, the type of water sources and its
yield, collect surveying data like x, y coordinate, elevation and distance by using total
station, the collected data like type of pipe material, length of pipe, demand, pipe
diameter and elevation have been entered into the built model, then simulated for single
period and extended period using different scenarios. The model analysis result showed
the different problems of the system. These are oversized and undersized pipes, and high
pressures in existing system caused by customers at too low demand have been identified
and solution is established using pressure-reducing valves. Comparing representative
samples of distribution main’s pressure field-test with the model-simulated values
showed a reasonable and small difference to calibrate the model. Finally, 21% of the total
distribution mains are modified and development of Seladingay town distribution
network scenarios. The existing system has been evaluated in reality depending on the
existing situation of operating the different parts of the network head loss, velocity of
flow and pressure in water distribution system has been determined using Water CAD,
and also the water distribution system layout has been prepared using the surveyed data.
