Abstract:
Background: Work engagement is a positive, fulfilling, work-related state of mind. It is an
important determinant of burnout, organizational productivity, turnover and well-being of health
professionals. So, health service organizations need employees who are psychologically
attached/ engaged to their job. However, there is scarcity of evidences on work engagement of
healthcare professionals, particularly in KONSO zone, South Ethiopia.
Objectives: The objective of this study is to assess level of work engagement and associated
factors among health professionals working in public health facilities of KONSO zone, South
Ethiopia,2022.
Methods: Facility based cross sectional study will be conducted within selected public health
facilities among health professionals. Sample size is calculated using single population
proportion formula (n = 605) and simple random sampling technique will be applied. Data will
be collected from March 29 to June 29, 2022 in KONSO zone, South Ethiopia. Self-administered
questionnaires will be used to collect the data. The data will be entered into Epi-data manager
Version 3.1 and exported to SPSS version 24 for analysis. Mean scores, standard deviations,
summary tables, and graphs will be used for describing the data. Assumptions of factor analysis
and linear regression will be checked. Simple linear regression will be conducted and significant
variables at p value < 0.2 will be candidate for multiple linear regressions. The β-coefficient with
95% CI and p-value < 0.05 will be used to declare the factors associated with work engagement
in the multiple linear regression analysis.
Work plan and Budget: This study will be conducted from March to June, 2022 and requires an
estimated total budget of 25,373.70 Ethiopian Birr.
