Abstract:
Safety and health in building construction industry still suffers from ignorance and lack of
implementation. This low consideration of safety and health importance caused escalation of
accidents rate in construction projects. Also construction productivity is not scourging when low
productivity is causing delay in construction project. The main objective of this thesis is
assessing safety and health practices related to productivity of labor in building construction.
methodology used to gathered information are qualitative and quantitative survey, from
qualitative survey used interview and quantitative survey used questionnaire. Respondents
assigned to this research according to topic of research are client, consultants and contractor.
Totally 61 questionnaire are distributed to respondent and from that return 41 questionnaire from
respondents as described 75.4%. Techniques used to analyzed data are relative importance index
(RII) and structural equation model (SEM). The outcome of research based on view of
respondents such as client, consultants and contractor. the most important factor related to client
perception “careless operation,” “non fair workload distribution on workers,” “lack of
management to safety and health practice,” “lack of inspection procedures on site,” “lack of
safety and health sign in site ,” and “ lack of technical guidance,” and related to contractor
perception “lack of communication between main stakeholders toward safety and health
practices,” “lack of management commitment to safety and health,” and “ lack of safety and
health sign,” and also related to consultant perception “ lack of management commitment to
safety and health,” “ lack of safety and health supervisor on site,” and “ poor safety and health
awareness among stakeholders,”. The conclusion of research is management factors most
important influence on labor productivity. Recommended to main stakeholders and concerned
body invest more of time and money on management factors then get tangible result.
