dc.description.abstract ThrouThrough its forward and backward links with other sectors, the construction industry is a key participant in any country's economy, creating jobs and income for the country. Government contracts with Construction Industry to develop infrastructure related to health, transport as well as the education sector for the society. Many projects in developing countries have faced extraordinarily large cost overruns, schedule delays, and poor quality. One of the contributing factors, among others, is problems with contract document lack of transparency and accountability on the clause of the construction industry. Among the numerous interconnected issues, the usage of unsuitable and inequitable constructions contract documents, as well as a lack of transparency and accountability, is one of the industry's challenges. The goal of this study is to find weaknesses and limitations in Ethiopia's local construction contract documents particularly government projects, as well as clauses that affect the sector's growth on the selected clause. The research particularly focuses on provisions related to Modifications by change order, Cable and conduits, Advance and Interim payments. Questionnaire, interview survey, correspondence letters, and payment certificates study provide the main strategy for data collection methods. In this thesis, a descriptive statistical method has been used for the analysis of the data (RII, 7 Likert scales, Cronbachs Alpha, SPSS, and Excel) that provide a general overview of the results in that some kind of interpretations discussions are made on the results, and reasonable conclusions are drawn forth. Thorough contract document knowledge and its prudent administration ensure national development. Without a doubt an agreement was found with industry stakeholders that irregularities regard modification, cable & conduit, finance flow parameters of a project need urgent attention. The greatest concern regards modifications of contract per Employer, Consultant and Contractor are finance mismanagement, incomplete design accompanied irregular estimation, and unrealistic planning and scheduling respectively. Since construction industry stakeholders are equally affected by cable and conduit issues, unanimously agreed that lack of as built details, not adhering to standard laying technologies, nil investigation before undertake establishment of facilities are their decreasing ordered apprehensions. Employer and Consultant, apart from their highest worry about benefits earned on advance payment, they also express concerns of helplessness regards shortcomings on control of use of advance payment by contractor. At the outset itself contractor has greatest concern regards volume and timings of advance payment release. Finally, if proper amendments to contract clauses are brought in regards modification by change order, cable & conduit and advance & interim payment Ethiopian building construction industry domestic players can prosper.
