This study was initiated to assess the practice of good governance in Halaba Kulito Town Administration. Using probability sampling techniques 358 household heads from the community including public sector officials and heads from the four selected institutions from the targeted population of 3345 household heads using Yeman (1967) formula. The instrument such as questionnaire, interview and focus group discussion were used to collect quantitative and qualitative data from selected institutions of Halaba kulito town administration. Descriptive statistical analyses were used to investigate the practice of good governance. The result of the analysis indicates that the major challenges faced the officials were lack of awareness, lack of transparency to the peoples, lack sound decision making process, poor customer handling practices and absence of guidance by rule of law. Moreover, the main reason for poor service delivery of the officials was shortage of skilled and committed man power, inadequate experience of practicing good governance. Consequently, the community didn’t satisfy with the service they get from the government officials in kulito town administration, because of the above mentioned challenges. Therefore, for the better practice of good governance, the public sector offices should put into operation and monitor community participations and creating awareness among society. The system should consider awarding highly efficient Public Administration officials in orderto motivate and take corrective measures against those officials found to have been involved in malpractices. So, public sectors should to create suitable environment that facilitate the involvement of the community on developing policies, plans, charters and evaluations on plans executed. |
