JOB SATISFACTION AND ASSOCIATED FACTORS AMONG MIDWIVES WORKING AT GAMO ZONE HEALTH FACILITIES.

Abstract

Background: Midwives are key to the health care system, and without adequately qualified, motivated, and well-supported midwives, the system cannot function properly. Midwives' job satisfaction is vital for motivation and efficiency, as it enhances employee performance as well as patient satisfaction. However, there are little researches in Ethiopia on Midwives' job satisfaction. As a result, it makes sense to investigate job satisfaction and associated factors among Midwives employed at Gamo zone health facilities. Objectives: To assess job satisfaction and associated factors among Midwives working at Gamo zone health facilities. Methods: A facility-based cross-sectional study employed in all Gamo zone health facilities from May 1 to 30, 2021. Two hundred eighty Midwives who were working in all Gamo zone health facilities were involved in this study. A self-administered structured questionnaire used to collect data. Data entered to open epi data software version 3.1and checked and also coded then exported to SPSS version 25 statistical software. Bivariable and multivariable logistic regression used to analyze data and odds ratio with 95%CI at p-value less than 0.05 applied to identify factors associated with job satisfaction. Results: Less than half 118(42.1%) with 95% CI (36.3, 48.2%) of Midwives satisfied with their job. Majority of the respondents were female (79.6%) and had diplomas in educational status (68.9%). Educational status (AOR=4.35, 95%CI (2.49, 7.6), recognition (AOR=1.97, 95%CI (1.17, 3.34) and work security (AOR= 1.73, 95%CI (1.01, 2.94) were identified as factors associated with job satisfaction. Conclusion: majority of Midwives had a low level of job satisfaction. Educational status, recognition, and work security were factors that affect job satisfaction of Midwives. Ministry of health should give special emphasis on educational status, recognition and work security of Midwives to increase their job satisfaction.
