dc.description.abstract The main objective of this study is to probe the role of indigenous conflict resolution mechanism as tools of peace building among Woliyta people of southern Ethiopia. To realize the intended objectives, the study utilized qualitative research approach with exploratory research design without ignoring explanatory design. The study employed primary and secondary data. Primary data was collected from different informants in Ofa Woreda by employing an interview; focus group discussions and observation. The study utilized purposive sampling and selected informants were participated in the study from sample size kebele respondents. Secondary data sources were obtained from published and unpublished materials; government documents; such as books, journals and different researches. The collected data were analysed and interpreted through thematic qualitative data analysis technique. Employing the indigenous conflicts resolution mechanism of Ofa woreda the studies come up with the following findings. The sources of conflict in the study area were selfish perception on sharing resources and negative feeling on others deliberately and the consequent indigenous conflict resolution mechanisms which is Shobia, Cimateta, Awassiya, and Awuciya. The indigenous conflict resolution mechanisms are grass root approaches to resolve conflicts and primarily focus on peace building through providing open discussion for the parties in conflict to exchange the ideas and clarify the issue at hand to bring genuine resolution. Indigenous conflict resolution mechanism is a very long and deep rooted process, mainly when addressed using original knowledge and skills of the elders of the society. So it is recommended such conflict prevention and conflict-resolution mechanisms should be based on the traditional conflict resolution knowledge of the people and be included in the elementary school curriculum and supported by social organizations like Churches, Idir and Iqub. en_US
