Abstract
The concept of human rights is based on the belief that every human being is entitled to
enjoy her/his rights without discrimination. Discrimination based on any ground is
prohibited in international, regional, and domestic human rights instruments. This study
investigated the treatment of pottery workers in Gamo Zone Boreda wereda from human
right perspectives. More specifically, the study explored the extent and causes of human
rights violations, and the study also assessed the role of the government or measure taken
by the government to harness the violations of human rights of pottery workers in the
study area. The study employed a qualitative research method. For the collection of
qualitative data from respondents, the researcher administered interviews and field visits.
The thesis also relied on sources such as international, regional, and domestic
(Ethiopian) legal instruments and relevant books, journal articles, court decisions and
other documents related to the research problem. The thesis revealed that because of the
societies‟ discriminatory old cultural practices and the government refrain from
discharging its inseparable respect, protection and fulfillment obligations or absence of
real application of those laws, they were deprived of their rights to life, access and hold
rural land, marriage, and related family founding rights. The findings and
recommendations assist the government in taking measures to protect the human rights of
potteries in the study area. |
