dc.description.abstract Sustainability of rural water supply schemes is a big challenge, in water delivery service. Many Ethiopian rural communities suffer from lack of safe drinking water. The goal of this study was to evaluate sustainability of rural water supply schemes in Jimma Geneti Woreda along with triggering factors. Gudetu Jimma, Hunde Gudina, Bebela Sorgo and Lalisa Biya kebeles were selected for the study. Due to, inaccessibility of infrastructure and poorly managed. The study employed descriptive survey design. The target population of this study is 5143 household and Random sampling was used in this study and 135 households were selected for the study. Both Primary and secondary data were employed. Primary data for the study was collected using focus group dissection, key informant, field survey and observation structured questionnaires that were administered to the respondents by the researcher. It was also found out that the sustainability of water supply scheme is assessed by using multi criteria analysis approach. Based on the general situation of the water supply scheme, technical, financial, social and institutional and there sub factor are weighted and calculated by analytical hierarchy process. Finally, the sustainability index value has been classified in three classes. The results of the study indicate that community participation, technical aspect, water point management practices and community training do affect sustainability of community water supply schemes. Five water points belongs to poor sustainable class, ten has partial sustainable and the remaining one has sustainable class. The study supply mitigation approach for causes of failures water supply schemes for long-lasting services and improve the community involvement in the whole project cycle. Sustainability of water schemes is a headache in the study area, so the Water service providers should address tfactors affecting sustainability in their planning and implementation of rural water schemes en_US
