| dc.description.abstract | Abstract Introduction: Today’s world, the construction industry is rated as one of the key industries. Study and knowledge of construction productivity are very important because they cause losses to the governing agencies and also influence the economics of the construction industry. The objective of this research is to identify and evaluate factors affecting labour productivity at building construction projects in Hawassa city Ethiopia. Methods: For this thesis mainly, structured questionnaires were used to get opinion of company manager, site engineer, Forman and project manager on the relative impact of 57 selected factors on labour productivity on building construction projects from 54 companies in the Hawassa city. Relative importance index was calculated. Analysis was done using SPSS version 25. Frequency distribution and descriptive statistics was done for selected variables. Linear regression was done for important factors affecting labour productivity. Results: fifty-four grade companies were included in the study of whom 27.8% were grade three. From 12 domains of factors affecting labour productivity materials/tool issues, leadership issues and quality issues ranked one to three by having RII of 0.626, 0.588 and 0.570 respectively. From elements of whole 57 factors material shortages were the most important factor. After controlling for the effects of other confounding factors material shortage and payment delay were significant factors affecting labour productivity (p value <0.005) Conclusion and recommendation: factors affecting labor productivity is important parameters that construction companies should focus on. After those factors identified the following counter measures like a detail and clear schedule of material supply, supply enough lighting at the construction sites, storing Purchased material at appropriate location, near to site of construction and making it easily accessible, assigning the right person to the right activities(tasks provided. | en_US |
