Abstract:
Earthquakes are one of the most dangerous and devastating natural hazards that cause great loss of life and property. Building damages are the great loss because building itself, Lives in it and different properties are lost at the time of earthquake. Buildings which have regular configuration both in plan and elevation suffer less than building with irregular configuration in plan and elevation.
This study made analysis of 8 story combined plan (L shaped) with stiffness irregular structures and regular plan (rectangular shaped) with stiffness regular and irregular structures using euro code 8, 2004 code and SAP 2000 software. Different model responses like base shear, base moment, story shear, story displacement, story drift and time period were analyzed using the method of Response spectrum analysis. Stiffness irregularity affects both L shaped and R shaped plan models and found that L shaped plan models 57% and 29% R shaped plan models interms of story drift. From both combined irregular plan with stiffness irregular models and regular plan with stiffness irregular models, the best performed model against earthquake was regular plan and stiffness model. Finally, concluded that building with irregular plan and stiffness irregular models should be constructed according to the code provisions.
