Yoga has Para amount importance for human mind to get relief from stress, tension, anxiety, and
reduces depression. This study was done in Gamo Gofa zone, Arbaminch, BiruhTesfa prison
institution. The objective of the study was to determine the effect of Twelve weeks yogic practices
on depression among female prisoners. Female Individuals sentenced were screened for
depression then all individuals’ with depression would be included in this study. In addition to
that, experimental survey was done by the expert of Yoga institution who came from Addis
Ababa, and a psychiatrist professional from Arbaminch Health College. The design of the
research was quasi experimental which was employing pre and post test quasi experimental
without control. In this respect the Yoga instructor, who came from Addis Ababa, has trained the
respondents’ and a psychiatrist professional evaluated 30 female prisoners at the beginning to
select female prisoners and at the end to measure their depression level scores in the study.
Then, the researcher has involved with that expertise and participated in each steps in the
process of the study. The finding of the study revealed that, Depression has reduced significantly,
educational interest of prisoners in the institution also increased tremendously; the outlooks of
prisoners became positive after the performing Yoga exercises; even their willingness toward
Yoga exercise paved way to think and to see themselves as civilians than perceiving as
prisoners. Depending on the above findings of the study, the researcher recommended also
forwarded. The responsible and concerned bodies of Arbaminch town prison institution should
provide special classroom, which is clean, neat and furnished with a yoga mat for performing |
