Abstract:
Ethnic conflict is now a pervasive and salient dimension of political and social conflict in several
countries of the world. It has gained much attention since the end of the Cold War and it has
become a worldwide matter. Since then, numerous theorists and scholars have attempted to
explain the different causes of ethnic conflict based on their theoretical underpinnings. The
theme of this study focuses on the effects of intra -ethnic conflict on socioeconomic development:
The Case of 2008 Conflict in Dirashe Woreda of Segen Area Peoples‟ Zone, Southern
Ethiopia. Methodologically, the researcher employed both quantitative and qualitative research
method to identify the characteristics and the significance of human experiences as described by
participants and interpreted by the researcher at various levels of abstractions. The tools used to
collect data were, field survey, questionnaire, telephone interview, FGD and document analysis
.Purposive sampling, a type of non-probability sampling was also used to select the participants
for and telephone interview as well as FGD.As per the finding of this study, the post 2008Dirashe intra ethnic conflict was mainly caused by economic factors are identified as one of the
major causes of conflict
