ABSTRACT Background: Ethiopia adopted integrated community based managements of common childhood illness for area of the limited access to services for sick children and it has significant impact in reducing the under-five children mortality, however there was limited utilization of service for common childhood illness in developing countries especially pastoralist area. There is limited information on integrated community case management service utilization in the pastoralist and study area. Objective: To assess utilization of integrated community based common childhood illness management (ICCM) and its associated factors, in Teltele District, south Ethiopia, 2019. Method: A Community based cross sectional study design was conducted from March 1 to 30/2019 of 615 participants were studied using simple random sampling technique and qualitative data were triangulated by using narrative approach. Data were entered into Epidata v. 4.2.2.1 and exported to SPSS v.23 for analysis. Crude or adjusted odds ratio, and 95% confidence interval were used to assess the strength of association and statistical significance. Variables which had a p-value of ≤ 0.25 in bivariate analysis were considered as candidates for final model; variables that had a p-value of ≤0.05 in the multivariate binary logistics regressions analysis were considered as factors associated with utilization. Results: The response rate of this study was 97.3%. The utilization of integrated community based case management services in this study was 24.9%. Among several factors that would affect the utilization of service, caregivers who had some formal education, currently married, institutional delivery, knowledge on child illness, travels <30 minutes to reach health post and caregivers who perceive child illness as severe case were associated with the utilizations of integrated community case management services. Conclusion & Recommendation; these findings were low when compared to other studies done globally and national. Caregivers who had some formal education, currently married, distance from home to health post, knowledge about child illness, institutional delivery and perceive child illness as severe were a factors that affects the utilization, Thus, strengthen the health education in health facilities on childhood illness and awareness on availability of services and female educations is essential to increase the utilizations |
