dc.description.abstract ABSTRACT Earthquakes are the most unpredictable and devastating of all natural disasters which are very difficult to save engineering structures and life, against it. Hence in order to overcome these disaster structural engineer should to design earthquake resistant structures. Lateral load resisting system is one of the effective system to mitigate the effects of seismic load in high rise buildings. Academic research on this subject mainly focuses on either reinforced concrete or structural steel buildings, there is limitation of research related to the structural performance of composite buildings for different structural systems. In this study the effect of lateral load resisting system on high rise composite building has been studied. A symmetric plan braced frame and shear walled frame has been selected and compared the seismic response of the structural systems in terms of lateral displacement, story drift, base shear and modal period of buildings. This study has been conducted by using X-brace at corner and middle bay, and shear wall at corner and middle bay of the buildings, totally 25 models were used in this study. Modal Response Spectrum analysis has been used, and analyses were done by using finite element software’s SAP2000. When shear wall provided in MRF at middle bay, in both X and Y directions, lateral displacement, story drift and modal period reduced by 29.07%, 41% and 26.74% respectively, and When bracing provided in MRF at middle bay, in both X and Y directions, lateral displacement, story drift and modal period reduced by 17.69%, 30.77% and 11.77% respectively, in 30th story en_US
