This study identified travel time on selected major road is unreliable by using buffer index, buffer time, 95th percentile travel times, calculating travel time thresholds and developing regression model in order to now the influencing parameters on operational performance of selected major road in Addis Ababa town and to make recommendations for policymakers to improve performance of road networks based on the outcome of the study. The study overlooks tow road corridors in Addis Ababa town this are Piazza to Arate kilo (corridor1) which consists of 10-junction road and AkakiKality Drivers & mechanics Training center (maseltgna) to AkakiKality NOC (corridor2) which consists of 9-junction road network expose to excessive amount of traffic volume, for this tow corridor travel time data is collected by using manual method of license plate matching techniques for every 15 minutes consecutive interval. Traffic volume data at the middle of selected road corridor collected for every 15-minute consecutive intervals by assigning enumerators at reference line standing on the side of the road, speed operational delay and percentage of the heavy vehicle calculated from the travel time and traffic volume data.
This research shows that unreliably travel time for the selected major road by using buffer index, buffer time, 95th percentile travel times, calculating travel time thresholds and developing three regression model, modal one travel time vs traffic volume, available road width, operational delay, modal tow travel time vs speed, available road width, operational delay and modal three travel time vs of percentage heavy vehicles, available road width, operational delay.
