Abstract:
This project work is areview of the experimental techniques that can be applied to
ultrahigh molecular weight polyethylene (UHMWPE), which is commonly used in total
joint replacement (TJR).The limitations of these techniques caused by the inherent
properties of the material or the instruments for characterization are discussed. The
friction, wear and mechanical properties of UHMWPE as a function of polymer
crystallinity in both micro and nano scale are reviewed.
